Pro Audio Boutique Consults for Echo Mountain Recording Studios on Peluso Microphones

Pro Audio Boutique loves to consult with both Private and Commercial recording facilities.  On this blog entry we were excited to get a call from Echo Mountain Recording Studio in Asheville, NC to see about checking out Peluso microphones.  Better yet, they wanted to do a side by side comparison of their vintage Telefunken 251, AKG C12 and Neumann U47 with the Peluso 22 251, Peluso P12 and Peluso 2247 SE.  I truly believe Peluso Microphone lab makes some of the best microphones in the world...especially for the price. So I headed down to Echo Mountain Recording studios in Asheville, NC to put them to the test.

First; a little bit about Echo Mountain Recording Studios.  Echo Mountain Studios embodies what every major recording facility should be.  The studio infrastructure, the gear and the staff are all top notch.  To me, this is one of the best studios on the East Coast. I know thats a lot to say with so many great facilities but for me this is a great place to make a record if I had a choice.  You can tell a lot of thought was put into the infrastructure, acoustics and logistics of building this amazing facility.  The staff is 100% pro and they always make clients feel welcome when they arrive.

The Peluso Microphone shootout took place in Studio A (also known as The Church).  This is Echo Mountain's Neve 80 Series room designed by George Augsperger.  The place is filled with a variety of both Vintage and Modern Outboard gear.  The center piece of studio A is their Neve 8068 with Uptown Automation.  We tracked into Echo's Pro Tools HD 3 Accel system through Aurora 16 Converters at 24Bit 96 Khz.  All the microphones were set up as identical as possible and tracked through a GML Mic Preamp straight into Pro Tools HD.  No Compression.  No Eq.  We compared Echo Mountain's Vintage Microphones to Peluso's Versions.

We compared the microphones on several different sources from Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Piano and even Drum Overheads.  Echo Mountain even demoed the Peluso Cemc 6 Stereo Kit on Drum Overheads and Acoustic Guitar as well as the Peluso TR14 Ribbon on guitar cabinets.  Needles to say they were impressed!  Especially with the Peluso 2247 SE.  It was really hard to tell a discernable difference between the Vintage and Peluso 47.
